LEVEL DESIGNER - SIX WEEKS - FALL 2018
Machinae is a simple white-boxed environment in Unreal meant to explore how to design spaces that establish a strong atmosphere. Additionally, I took the opportunity to explore how to guide players to reveal interesting landscapes. This project was heavily inspired by my memories of the unique aesthetic of the Myst games I played when I was younger.
I quite like how this project's atmosphere ended up feeling. It's struck a nice balance of being ominous, but not discouraging you from exploring. However, I don't think that a lot of this environment could be quickly converted for gameplay, despite there being a few empty rooms reserved for that purpose. It might be interesting to return to this at some point to see how the spaces in this level could be adapted for gameplay.
